He was married to Marilyn McDonald on June 9, 1988 in Grinnell. To this union two children were born; Heather and Michael.
Dennis was a family man and a stranger to no one. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing. During the summer weekends he could often be found camping in his favorite spot at Diamond Lake west of Montezuma, Iowa. He was famous for his outgoing smile and wave at all he encountered. He was also known for grilling skills. He could often be found over the fire at the campground making his signature breakfast of scrambled eggs with bacon.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan unless the Hawks were playing the Iowa State Cyclones, where his daughter, Heather attended college. He held a special love for his dog, Lady and grandson, Miguel.
