She was born in Carson Valley, daughter of Alfred and Effie (Wamsley) Brubaker. She married Clifford F. Mitchell of Carson Valley on May 30, 1942, in Geeseytown, and he died April 16, 2010, after having shared 67 years of marriage.
Surviving are four children: Sally Young and husband, Cloyd, of Gallatin, Tenn., Virginia Beyer and husband, Fred, of West Seneca, N.Y., and Mark D. Mitchell and Eileen Focht and husband, Denny, all of Carson Valley, Duncansville; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Miriam Mellon of McMurray, Ariz.; and a brother, Galen Brubaker of Norwalk, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Ronald, Glen and John Brubaker; and a grandson, Ashley Focht.
Ellen was a 1939 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a 1959 graduate of the Altoona Bible Institute. In August 1984, she retired from the Van Zandt VA Medical Center as a payroll clerk. She had also worked at the U.S. Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Ellen will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, March 28, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. Her sons-in-law, Pastor Frederick J. Beyer and Cloyd E. Young will officiate. Interment will be in Carson Valley Cemetery.
