Isaac R. Embree
Born: January 8, 1831, Raleigh, New Jersey. Died: June 7, 1921, Westfield, Pennsylvania. Isaac's parents were Samuel Force Embree and Hannah Brown Embree. He was living in in Starkey, New York, in 1850. He moved to Potterbrook, Pennsylvania (near Westfield) as a young man, where he married Lucy Ann Tanner in 1858. He married again to Phoebe (Heath) who died in 1914.

He wrote several church hymns one of which was:
Walking with Jesus, When Friends Prove Untrue

Walking with Jesus, from morning till night,
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, in garments made white,
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, with hand clasped in hand,
Walking with Jesus in Canaan's bright land,

Refrain

Walking with Jesus, O blest be His name!
Walking with Jesus my Lord.
Walking with Jesus, walking with Jesus,
Walking with Jesus, O blest be His name!
Walking with Jesus my Lord.

Walking with Jesus when danger is nigh,
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, when billows run high;
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus in poverty's vale,
Walking with Jesus whose love will ne'er fail,

Refrain
Walking with Jesus, when friends prove untrue
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, whatever they do;
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, in step by His side,
Walking with Jesus whatever betide,

Refrain
Walking with Jesus, by faith and not sight,
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, with songs of delight;
Walking with Jesus my Lord;
Walking with Jesus, my staff and my stay,
Walking with Jesus, the truth and the way,

In December of 1915 Mr. Embree was living in Reading, Pa., moving there in 1910.He was interviewed by the Reading Eagle on Dec 12, 1915 and submitted the following hymns as some of his recent work. Tell it over and over ye saints of the Lord
The wonderful story contained in his Word.
The story of stories, the sweetest and best,
That ere ever heard or that seraphs confessed.

Tell it over and over, in service and song,
While ages on ages are gliding along.
The theme of the prophets and wise men of old,
The same that they sing in the City of Gold.

Tell it over and over, Twill gladden the home,
and lift the dark curtain when loved ones are gone.
Will open the portals of hope to some soul,
That now is bowed down and afar from the goal.

Tell it over and over in town and in mart,
Till all shall have learned this sweet story by heart.
Voiced to the shepherds on Bethlehem's plain
of peace upon earth and good will unto men.

Tell it over and over ring out the glad strain,
Isles from afar take up the refrain,
Till earth shall be filled with the peon of praise,
To Jesus my savior, the ancient of days.

Nearer and Nearer to the City
Tune- I am saved
Text- Now is your salvation nearer than when you believed

Near and nearer to the city, as the days and years go by,
Nearer to the many mansions in my Father's house on high
Chorus
Near and nearer to the coming of the King in glory bright,
For to gather in His chosen who have walked with Him in white.

Nearer to the gates of pearl, near to the jasper sea,
Nearer to the friends beloved who are waiting there for me.
Nearer to the crowns unfading, that are being laid up there;
For the workers in the vineyard 'mid earth's sorrow, want and care.

Nearer to the golden pathways where the saints and angels stray,
Holding sweet and blessed converse with the Master by the way.

Near and nearer to the crossing, Nearer to the farther shore,
nearer to the glad forever, where they meet to part no more.
