Civil War veteran, served with Union forces. Received a disability from the US government.
In the late 19th century he homesteaded in northern Rush Co., Kansas where he was a charter member of the local Grand Army of the Republic lodge in McCracken, Kansas. He later lived in the county seat of La Crosse, Kansas.

4th Great Grandson of Robert and Mary (Bassett) Embree early pioneers in Pre-Colonial Connecticut.
Son of Samuel Force and Rebecca (Frazee) Embree.
Husband of Hannah Reid Embree.
Father of 7 children; Cora (187-1956), Benton (1871-1871), Philip Sheridan (1872-1946), Benton A. (1874-1874), Margaret Ann (1875-1964), Samuel (1888-1987), & Hiram Embree (unk dates died young).
