Dr William Bryan was born in Merthyr Tydfil Wales in 1806 to Mary Williams 1780-1826 and John Wolfe Bryan 1780-1818. He arrived with his mother and 6 other children in Philadelphia in 1818 to find his father had died before their arrival. In 1825 he married Mary Ann Roberts and was a dentist in Philadelphia. They had 2 sons, John Wolfe and William Llywelyn Bryan. William served as 2nd Lieut of the 1st Reg PA Volunteers Co G in the Mexican War of 1846-1848. By 1849 he was a physician with a medical degree from Pennsylvania College and an office at Front & Broad St in Beverly NJ. William continued to practice medicine in Beverly with his family until his death in 1874. His Obituary:'Dr William Bryan, formerly Mayor of Beverly and well known as a prominent local Democratic politician, died in that city, on Monday, aged 68' from NJ Mirror 10 Sep 1874 p3 col6.
