LeMoin Francis Beckman
Born: April 11, 1905
Died: October 20, 1995
His paternal grandfather was Henry Beckman who in 1853 settled in what is now Lodi with his brother Christopher Beckman. His father was Frank Beckman who in the early 1900's founded the mercantile business of Beckman, Welch & Thomopson in downtown Lodi. His mother was Addine LeMoin Beckman who was born in Drytown.
LeMoin Beckman was born in the family home that his parents built on School Street in Lodi at the present location of the DuBois store. He was the second child born. His older sister was the late Margaret Beckman Devine and his younger was the late Winifred Beckman Jones, both of Lodi. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1923 where he was active in sports. He was on Lodi's first football team in 1921. He attended Davis for two years and on November 14, 1925 was married to Aileen Kobes, his high school sweetheart. They have resided in Lodi ever since. They have been married for 70 years.
LeMoin Beckman was active in ranching and real estate. He and his father-in-law Charles Kobes were partners in the real estate and insurance firm of Kobes & Beckman. For 35 years he was Diretor of San Joaquin First Federal Savings of Stockton, later known as Great American Savings. He also was Director of The Wine Guild for many years.
Through the years, LeMoin Beckman was involved in many community activities. He was a member of the Lodi Elementary School District for more than ten years. He was active in San Joaquin-Calaveras Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was President of the Lodi Rotary Club and of the Lodi Realty Board. He was Director of the Chamber of Commerce. He served on the San Joaquin County Water Conservation Board and also was a member of the San Joaquin County Fair Board for many years. He was a long-time member of Woodbridge Gold & Country Club, servied as its' President, was active in the expansion of the course from 9 holes to 27 holes and was its' Secretary for ten years.
LeMoin Beckman was a member of the United Congregational Christian Church of Lodi. Fraternally he was a member of Lodi Masonic Lodge and the Stockton Scottish Shrine. He was a charter member of the Grandfathers Club in Stockton.
LeMoin Beckman leaves Aileen, his wife of seventy years and two children.
