Bernice Faye (Abernathy) Owens, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1931, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Lonnie Mae (McKittrick) Abernathy.
Mrs. Owens was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, a member of the Golden Age Club and former member of the choir.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Aubrey F. Owens; children, Frieda (Owens) Meredith of Simpsonville, Norma Jean Owens and Aubrey Franklin Owens Jr.; of the home; sisters, Lois Ford of Inman and Helen Satterfield of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Stephen Bradley Meredith (Margie) of Simpsonville, Shelley Meredith Burgess (Barry) of Leesville, SC, and Matthew Franklin Owens (Megan) of Spartanburg; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, and Hayden Meredith of Simpsonville and Will and Phillip Burgess of Leesville, SC.
She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Wood Meredith; brother, Woodrow Abernathy and sisters, Jessie Jolley, Evelyn Hutcherson and Sarah Cariens.
Visitation was held 2:00 to 2:45 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 350 N. Blackstock Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29301
Funeral services followed at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Jason A. Lee and Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
