Found in The State 13 January 1935: Last rites for Mrs. W. F. Coltrane, 37, of 2329 Divine street, who died at the Columbia hospital at 1:20 Saturday morning, will be conducted at the Dunbar Funeral home at 3:30 this afternoon by the Rev. John H. Webb, D. D., pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery. Born in Anderson county, Mrs. Coltrane was the daughter of Lawrence D. and Sarah Bowen. She was born November 26, 1897, and in childhood moved to Columbia with her parents and had lived here most of her life. Attending the public schools here, she received the Sylvan medal as an honor graduate of Columbia high school. She received her A. B. degree from Winthrop in the class of 1917. She specialized in music at Winthrop. After graduation she was married to W. F. Coltrane, January 21, 1918. She taught school at Tucapau and Chester before returning to Columbia to live. For the past three years she had been connected with the Columbia Record. She was a loyal member of the First Baptist church and was active in the Business Women's circle of the church. A woman of fine traits and sweet disposition, she leaves many friends who regret her passing. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Robert and Frank Coltrane, Jr., both of Columbia; her mother, Mrs. L. D. Bowen; four sisters, Mrs. E. P. West of Leesville, Mrs. S. F. Sistrunk of Wilmington, N. C., Mrs. T. S. Bradford of Spartanburg and Mrs. W. A. Styron of Columbia; one brother, W. V. Bowen of Columbia.
