Daughter of Charles Lashley HILLYER (1823-1908) and Eliza Dean HILLYER (1824-1871), both of England. Clara died of TB at the age of 20 years, 3 months.

Clara Dean HILLYER married a soldier named WALLACE or WALLY (1862-) who was stationed at Fort Laramie, WY. It is presumed they were married, but no marriage record has been found as yet. In 1884 the father of her children was arrested for bigamy, and the marriage was therefore nullified, so she was buried as HILLYER. They had the following children:

Walter Earl WALLACE (Feb 1884-1973)

Kate "Little Katie" WALLACE (1883-1973)

Her 13-month old son was adopted by Abraham Estep "Tep" RAGAN (1860–1944) and Mary E. Peterson RAGAN (1865–1906). Clara had given birth to Walter's sister "Little Katie", but the RAGANs were unable to take both children.

Her baby daughter was born 28 Nov 1883 at Fort Laramie, Goshen, WY. Clara called the baby "Little Katie" presumably after her little sister, Kate. The story is that Little Katie was given to a woman traveling west with a wagon train. From there we lost her until recent research came up with some very probable though circumstantial evidence.

We believe the woman who took Little Katie was named SCHLACKER, and gave Little Katie the given name Eva SCHLACKER. The 1910 US Census for Los Angeles County, CA shows Eva's mother as Minnie SCHALCKER, Eva born 1883 in Wyoming and married to George WHITTALL. They had 2 children: Ida May and Albert Joseph. Apparently Eva divorced Whittall and married Percy Burlingham LEWIS (1896-1956) on 05 Mar 1917 in Mohave County AZ. They had no children.

Clara died at Fort Laramie, Laramie County, WY. Goshen and Platte counties were created from Laramie County on 09 Feb 1911.
