Remsen/Holland Patent- Clarence Ingersoll, 97, passed away peacefully June 17, 2014, at the home of his daughter.
He was born August 20, 1916, in Remsen, the son of George and Laura Hughes Ingersoll. He graduated from Remsen Central School class of 1934 and married Ruth Evans on March 19, 1943. They celebrated their 70th anniversary last year and Ruth recently passed away January 22, 2014.
Clarence worked at the Remsen Dairymen's League as a truck driver and welder. He earned his pilot's license at an early age, built his own glider and airplane and for a time established an airport in Remsen. For his entire life he enjoyed flying and restoring vintage aircraft. His last flight was on his 90th birthday, thanks to Brian Coughlin and Doug Wallbridge, in a restored 1929 Curtiss Robin that he had previously owned and flown in the 1940's.
He leaves three daughters. He also leaves four grandchildren. He also leaves eight great-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter on the way.
He was predeceased by his wife Ruth, son-in-law Stanley Cady, two sisters, Bernice Hilfiker and Mildred Baker...
Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery.
