He attended school in Canton and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1231 and Potsdam American Legion Post 74.
He had owned and operated a dairy farm since 1970, recently retiring because of ill health.
Surviving were two sons, Darren and Dennis, "D. J.," ; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Eleanor and James Cassoni; Sharon and Roswell Simmons; Ruth Robar; Karel and Michael Mace; Janet and Everett Aldous; and Kathy Fountain; three brothers and their wives, Donald and Dorothy; Clarence and Shirley; and Leo and Cheryl; a sister-in-law, Mary Ames; a grandson, a granddaughter and 35 nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Charles A. Jr. and Arthur D., and a sister, Elizabeth Acra, died before him.
