Charles A. Ames Jr., 54, of Finnegan
Road, Canton, will be held at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday (June 22,
1988) at St. Mary's Church in Canton
with the Rev. Harry Giroux, of
the St. Thomas Moore Newman
Center, officiating. Burial will be in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton.
Calling hours will be held from 7
to 9 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the
family home on the Finnegan
Road. Arrangements are with
O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton.
Mr. Ames died Sunday afternoon
(June 19, 1988) in the emergency
room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
He had been in failing health.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; a
son, Lawrence, at home; two
daughters, Debra A. Ames of Canton,
Elizabeth A. Ames, at home;
five brothers, Arthur of Madrid,
Donald of Pierrepont, Clarence,
Joseph and Leo, all of Canton;
seven sisters, Mrs. Milton
(Elizabeth) Acra of Middletown,
Ohio, Mrs. James (Eleanor)
Cassoni Jr. of Carthage, Mrs.
Roswell (Sharon) Simmons of Ancram,
N.Y., Mrs. Ruth Robar of
Potsdam, Mrs. Michael (Karel)
Mace in Canton, Mrs. Everett
(Janet) Aldous of Pierrepont, Mrs.
Raymond (Katheryn) Fountain of
Canton; several nieces and
nephews.
He was born June 23, 1933 in Canton
son of Charles and Katheryn Burke
Ames. He attended St. Mary's and
Canton Central Schools and
married Mary Newcombe on
March 23, 1957 at St. Henry's
Church in Dekalb.
He worked at a local feed store
for 20 years and was a bartender at
several area restaurants.
Mr. Ames was a Korean War
veteran, a member and past commander
of Canton VFW Post 1231, a
member of American Legion Post
1513 in Madrid, and a member of
St. Mary's Church in Canton.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Amyotrophic Lateral
Sclerosis Association.
