Muncie – Joanna R. Whitcomb, 89, passed away Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014 at Bethel Pointe.
She was born on May 25, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph L. and Ola R. (Collins) Douglas. Joanna graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1943.
She worked for Goodyear for 10 years, several local attorneys and for the City of Muncie Courts for 5 years, retiring in 1984. Joanna attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church; was a member of Maplewood Ladies Golf Association; member of Greenhills Country Club for many years; member and past president of Amvets Auxiliary, Post #12 and served as State President of Amvets Auxiliary.
Joanna enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading and going to Casinos.
She is survived by one son, Michael Whitcomb (wife, Ofelia) of Fishers; two daughters, Pat A. Davis (husband, Clay) of Muncie and Maryellen South (husband, John) of Muncie; eight grandchildren, M. Scott Whitcomb, Samantha Ficke, Jacqueline Weber, Matthew D. Norrell, Natalie M. Marquardt, Brandy Matthews, Andy Matthews and Margot Dwyer; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Douglas of Muncie; and her beloved dog and companion, "Gracie".
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Cox, Marian Wade and Laura Ellis and one brother in infancy, Joseph Douglas.
