Graveside service for Duane L. Ewer, 87, of Aberdeen will be 4:30 pm, Thursday, August 7, 2014 in Pleasanton Cemetery at Pleasanton, NE. Military rites by Ravenna American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Duane died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Manor Care Health Systems in Aberdeen surrounded by loved ones.

Duane was born August 18, 1926 to Cyril and Ella (Smith) Ewer in Pleasanton, NE. He grew up with five brothers and one sister. Duane entered the United States Navy and served honorably in World War II. He served aboard the Battleship USS Idaho in the South Pacific. Post WWII, Duane graduated from Kearney State College in Nebraska.

On July 11, 1947 Duane was united in marriage to Clara Mae Psota and their lifelong journey began. They didn't have much but loved each other with all that they had.

Duane was a lifelong teacher and storyteller, teaching in Riverton, Hyannis and Curtis, NE before he made the move to Aberdeen in 1964 after receiving his Master's Degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He then taught at Northern State College/University until he retired in 1991. For many years Duane served on the board of the Aberdeen Federal Credit Union. He loved to travel to conventions and being able to take Clara with him. Duane enjoyed watching Judge Judy, baseball and the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.

Duane will be forever loved and never forgotten by his wife, Clara Mae; children, Richard (Donna) Ewer, Judy Ewer, Steve (Debbi) Ewer, Susan (Milton) Koerner and Brian (Wendy Zylla) Ewer; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Ewer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Frederick, Bruce, Bernard and Russ, one sister, Maybelle and his grandson, Michael Beaudry.
