Son of Cyril & Ella (Smith) Ewer.
Married to Doris Zimmer on 5-14-1939 at Pleasanton, NE.
He served in the United States Army as a sergeant in the 17th Airborne Division from December 1943 to December 1945. He was in the Battle of the Bulge, on occupation duty in Berlin, Germany, served with General Patton and airlifted over the Rhine River in March of 1945. He attended the Chillicothe Missouri Business College. Russell was a lumberman for over 40 years working for Tollefson and Elliott Lumber Company of Kearney and Mead Lumber Company of Cheyenne and then as manager for both Mead Lumber Companies of Broken Bow and Beatrice. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice where he served on the Administrative Board and Trustees and was a member of the Keystone Supper Club. He was also a member of Rotary International, B.P.O. Elks #619, Arie #531 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion and Geddes-Thober Post #1077 of the VFW all of Beatrice.
He is survived by his wife Doris; one daughter Marilyn Brendle and one son Donald Ewer and wife Bev all of Beatrice. Three grandchildren Julie Johnson and husband Wes, Scott Ewer and wife Barb and Angie Nicholson and husband Joe all of Omaha. Four great-grandchildren Alexis and Rylee Johnson and Shelby and Colton Nicholson. Two brothers Jack Ewer and wife Alberta of Loup City, Nebraska and Duane Ewer and wife Clara Mae of Aberdeen, South Dakota. One sister-in-law Marcella Ewer of North Platte, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Ella Smith Ewer, one sister Maybelle Beith, three brothers Bruce, Frederick and Bernard Ewer and one son-in-law Roger Brendle.
