Harold Rhoades of Conewango Valley dies at 81
Harold G. Rhoades, 81, of Cowen Road, Route 1, Conewango Valley, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 1981 at his home.
He was born Nov. 30,1899, in the town of Conewango, the son of William and Hattie Lawrence Rhoades, and had lived in the area most of his life. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Rhoades was a veteran of World War I; a life member of Conewango Fire Department; a former fire commissioner for the Town of Conewango, former director and delegate of Leon Milk Producers Cooperative Association; and a member of Poland Center Senior Citizens.
He and his wife, the former Elva Barhite, were married March 31, 1920.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Raymond Rhoades of Conewango Valley; three daughters, Genevieve Hussey of Seattle, Wash., Glendine Rhoades of Jamestown, and Sharon Smith of Kennedy; six grandchildren, Sandra Tonger of Longwood, Fla., Donald Rhoades and Dennis Rhoades of Conewango Valley, Diane Wheeler of Steamburg, Shari Smith and Troy Smith of Kennedy; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence Rhoades in 1961.
The funeral was held at 2 P.M. Tuesday in the Hoitink Funeral Home, Randolph, The Rev. Larry T. Smith, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Kennedy, officiated. Burial was in East Randolph Cemetery.
Bearers were Henry Schobey, George Perry, Richard Abers, Glen Wakefield and Harold Lindquist.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Conewango Fire Department.
