Samuel McClure was born about 1788, probably in Madison County, Kentucky to Thomas and Jenet (Black) McClure. Thomas McClure and wife Jenet died in Bath County, Kentucky. They are not the same couple as Thomas and Jane McClure of Fayette County, Kentucky

Samuel McClure married on October 25, 1814 in Bath County, Kentucky to Jane Hendricks, daughter of Peter and Keron-happuck (Noe) Hendricks, born March 15, 1797 in Montgomery County, Kentucky. The McClures lived in Owingsville Township of Bath County after their marriage, near the Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church, of which they were members.

Samuel McClure served in the War of 1812. He enlisted on August 15, 1812 in Captain George Pugh's Company of the 1st Regiment, formed in Bath County. He was always present for duty, but was sick on the November 30, 1812 muster role. He mustered out on March 4, 1813. Samuel was also a member of Capt. James Coleman's Co., Col. Johnson's Regiment, where he served from 15 Aug to 19 Nov 1813. That is important because it means that he fought in the Battle of the Thames (along with his brother Matthew who served in the same regiment for the same enlistment period in Capt. Samuel Combs' company

In 1817 he owned 49 acres, purchased from his mother Jane. It was located on Flat Creek. Samuel McLure was listed on p.168 of the 1820 census of Bath County. On May 7, 1833, Jane (Hendricks) McClure died in Bath County. She was the first known burial in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Samuel remarried on February 27, 1837 in Bath County to Elizabeth Powers, born about 1817 in Kentucky. He had two children by Elizabeth. Samuel McClure of Bath County on August 23, 183911 quit claimed to his brother Matthew McClure of Morgan County, a lot in the town of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, along with another lot 3 miles from that town. These lots had been inherited by Samuel from the heirs of John Cary, deceased. This linked him with the McClure family in Mecklenburg County, N.C.

Samuel McClure died about 1853 and is presumably buried next to his wife Jane, known to be buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
