Prentiss Brune Carter, son of Wm. T.[Tone] and Sarah Anne Davis Carter, was born February 14, 1865 at the Carter old home on Black Creek, Jackson County, Miss., and departed this life on June 6, 1916 at Houston Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Oneal Carter, to whom he was married on October 6, 1887 and six children; Misses Gertrude and Coopie Carter of Sweeny Texas, Mrs. W.R. Carter, Jr., of Carterville, Miss., Misses Pansy and Verba and baby Gladys, of Carterville, Miss. He also leaves and aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Anne Davis Carter, of Carterville, Miss., one brother, W.B. Carter, of Laramie, Wyoming, and three sisters, Mrs. J.C. Tucker and Mrs. F.D. Newcomb, of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Mrs. W.R. David of Carterville, Miss.

Mr. Carter was a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason, and a Woodman of the World. He was a farmer-merchant at Carterville, Miss., and for many years was engaged looking after the timber interests of the L.N. Dantzler Lumber Company, on Black Creek and Pascagoula River. Mr. Carter at one time owned the farm where Daisy post office now stands, and Mrs. Carter was the first postmistress of Daisy post office.

In 1891 the family removed to Carterville, Miss., where he resided until failing health made it necessary for Mr. Carter to seek a change of climate, and on the 7th day of October, 1912, they moved to Sweeney, Texas, where Mr. Carter was engaged in business and made many friends. In the meantime his health having been fully restored, the family was preparing to return to the old home at Carterville, when he was stricken with appendicitis and was hurried to the Baptist Sanitorium at Houston, where he underwent an operation, which caused his death.

The remains were shipped to Biloxi, Miss., and thence to Carterville, where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.J. O'Brien, pastor of the Baptist Church of Lucedale, Miss., after which he was buried with Masonic honors by the members of the Daisy Lodge, No. 421, of which he had long been a member, in the old family cemetery at Carterville.

"in the chain that bound a happy home, the strongest link is broken" Our dearest friend has left us, In this sad world alone, He's gone to live with Jesus,
In that Eternal Home.
