MRS. MARIETTA C. ADAMS

"Tis to leave the pain and sickness,
And the smiting of the rod,
"Tis to dwell among the angels
In the city of our God."

Marietta C. Adams was the daughter of George A. and Phoebe Wood. She was born in New York city, Nov. 25, 1848. She was called from this life early on the morning of Nov. 19, 1933, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Mrs. Adams came to Parke county in 1861, with her father, mother, three brothers and one sister. They came from New Yorkk city, bringing a group of orphan children to homes in this county.

Mrs. Adams was the last survivor of her father's family.

On February 27, 1867, she was married to John L. Adams, who died in 1889. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Adams, Anna L., who died at the age of three years, John Alfred, who died in 1914, Edward W., who lives in Indianapolis, Charles P., who lives in Shelbyville, Tenn., Alice Adams, who lives in Rockville, and has cared for her mother during several years of affliction.

Four grandchildren survive Mrs. Adams, Raymond E. Adams of Indianapolis, Roy W. Adams of Dublin, Erma A. Greig of Chicago, and Elsie F. Adams of Indianapolis.

One great-grandson, Raymond Jr., of Indianapolis, also survives his great-grandmother.

These relatives, with Mrs. Minnie Adams, wife of Edward W. Adams, Mrs. Mae Adams, wife of Charles P. Adams, several nieces and nephews and others have their hearts made sad with the death of this loved one.

Mrs. Adams lived near Catlin for a considerable time. While there she united with the Catlin Methodist Episcopal church, during her active life she was loyal to her church and she was regularly found in her place at its services.

Throughout her life Mrs. Adams made her family her greatest interest, her first concern was for her husband and her children.

Through long years she lived her life for them, that devotion has been rewarded, by the solicitous concern and loyal devotion of the children for their mother. This sincere regard has been made very beautiful in the tender care given to this mother by her devoted daughter, Alice. To see the life sacrifices of a parent rewarded by such love and care is indeed an experience of beauty.

The funeral was held at the home Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. Clyde H. Lininger officiating. A quartet from the M. E. church sang "Happy Day," "I Am Coming to the Cross," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

Pall bearers were Homer Arnold, Clarence Harrison, Will Lambert, Albert Barnaby, Dr. J. H. Burton and Bert Whitesell. Burial in the Adams cemetery near Jessup.
