Phebe White Wood was born in Newburgh, Orange County, New York, July 14, 1819. Died of paralysis at her home two miles south of Rockville, Aug 1, 1896, aged 78 years and 18 days. At the age of 17 Miss White joined the Methodist church, of which she remained a consistent and ardent member until death. In 1839 she was married to George Wood, moving to Rockville in 1861, where they have since resided. She was the mother of six children, four of whom survive. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. T. F. Drake, and the remains interred in the Rockville cemetery.
The family moved to Rockville, Parke County in 1861. They brought a group of orphan children to homes in this county.
