John Blackburn Hardeman, Sr. was one of the first preachers for the Church of Christ in Mayfield, Kentucky. John was born September 2, 1893 in Henderson TN, the son of John Bellefort Hardeman and Eliza Hart Wade. His father was a successful physician and merchant of that area. During the weekends and summers of his teen years John preached the Gospel. He graduated from Freed-Hardeman College, which was co-founded by his older half-brother Nicholas B Hardeman who was also a dynamic preacher and orator. After many years in education as teacher, principal and county superintendent, John devoted his life to preaching.

John married Celeste Patterson b. 1893 AR on Jun 6, 1913 in Chester County TN. Celeste was the daughter of Thomas F and Celeste "Lettie' Patterson. After 1919 John and Celeste moved from Tennessee to Graves County Kentucky. Their children were John B Hardeman, Jr 1914 TN, Martha L Hardeman 1916 TN, Frances M Hardeman 1919 TN (James P Taylor), Janice Hardeman 1921 KY, Billye Hardeman 1923 KY (Nolan Russell), Thomas Patterson Hardeman 1925 KY, Joanne Hardeman 1927 KY, and Jimmy Hardeman 1932 KY.

John Blackburn Hardeman died in 1963. He was 69.
