Victoria -- Virginia Giebler, 102, a former Hays resident, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 1996, at the Hays Medical Center.

She was born June 3, 1894, in Catherine to John and Matilda (Schmidt) Koerner.

She married James F. Giebler on Jan. 13, 1914, in Catherine. He died Oct. 22, 1983.

She worked as a sacristan for the St. Severin Catholic Church for many years. A seamstress and homemaker, she was member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, its altar society, the Christian Mothers and the Third Order of St. Francis. She had been a resident of St. John's of Victoria Nursing Home.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph, Grand Junction, Cob., and James, Kenneth and Vernon, Hays; seven daughters, and Alice Schneider, Victoria, Ruth Carter, Jacksonville, Fla., Lorraine Dreiling, Russell, Mae Desch, Boulder, Cob., and Jeannie Rupp, Hays; 43 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Stecklein, five brothers, five sisters and three grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fathers Paulinus Karlin, Mike Scully and Curtis Carison officiated; burial in the church cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Capuchins of MidAmerica or Thomas More Prep-Marian High School.
