She was united in marriage to James Shelton, September 5, 1900, and to this union three children were born. Winnie Hill and Effie Shelton, both preceded her in death, one son, Louis Shelton, of Simpson, Illinois survives.
Later she married Thomas Stapleton on December 4, 1928 and he departed this life September 10, 1965 [1956] after which she made her home with her son, Louis Shelton until the last six weeks, which she spent in the Hillview Nursing Home in Vienna, where she received the tender care of doctor and nurses to make her comfortable, but God knew best to call her home.
She professed faith in Christ in the year 1945, during a revival meeting that was held at the Gilead Presbyterian Church. Although she never united with any church, she lived in that faith until the end. She was a loving mother and good neighbor and will be missed by her many relatives and friends. She was faithful in her belief as a Christian and enjoyed going to church as long as her health permitted.
Surviving her is one son, Louis Shelton and his wife Bertha; one step-daughter, Mildred Stapleton Sandifer; and son in law, Charles Hill of Lockport, Illinois; one step granddaughter, Sue Phelps and 5 grandchildren, Margie McHugh of Cottage Hill, Illinois; Cleo McHugh, Aurora, Illinois; Ralph Hill, in the armed forces; Jeral Hill of Lockport, Illinois and Betty Dingman of Grand View, Missouri and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 4 brothers, Miles Kerley of Anna, Route 2, Orlan of Simpson, Weaver of Robbs, Johnie of Peoria and one sister, Clarice Wright of Simpson and many more relatives and friends.
She spent most of her life near the place where she was born, Simpson. Funeral services were held at the Robertson Funeral Home July 1st, conducted by Rev. Joe Evitts with burial in the Rock Springs Cemetery.
