Mrs. Frank J. Burnett Thursday morning received a telegram from her husband who went to San Diego, California, to be at the bedside of his dying mother stated that his father, B. F. Burnett, died on Wednesday in San Diego, closely following the death of his wife, who passed away on Saturday, May 12. Mrs. Burnett was in San Diego and it is believed Mr. Burnett's body will be placed beside that of his wife in the cemetery of the Pacific coast city.
Benjamin F. Burnett was born April 9, 1838 in Tazewell county, Illinois. He was joined in marriage with Clara C. McGraw, January 31st, 1865. in Peori, Illinois. To this union were born Lulu, Frank J., Pearl, Arthur, Maud and Zoa. Mr. Burnett was a Civil War veteran and a gallant soldier. He was Captain of Co. C., 148th Illinois Volunteer Infantry when the regiment was mustered out September 5th at Nashville, Tennessee. His military record is an honorable one and without a blemish. Mr. Burnett and his wife came from Peoria, Illinois to Fort Collins in the fall of 1879, and they were cherished and highly respected residents of this city for many years. At first he engaged in the mercantile business and then followed prospecting and mining at Lulu, Teller, Manhattan and other mining camps. About fifteen years ago he and his family moved to Denver, which city has since been their home. His children are all living and married. In the fall of 1922 Mr. and Mrs. Burnett went to San Diego to spend the winter in a milder climate, expecting to return to Colorado this month, but fate has decreed otherwise. Mr. and Mrs Burnett were both taken sick near the same time and despite the best medical skill and care, both have been called from life within a few days of each other.
Although Denver has been their home for many years, Mr. and Mrs. Burnett and some of their children have spent the summers in their mountain cottage "Laughalot" on the banks of the swift flowing Poudre, fifty miles west of Fort Collins where they extended a joyful welcome to all old-time-friends.
Mr. Burnett was one of the most active, energetic and enterprising citizens of Fort Collins when he lived here and his hearty, kindly greetings gave proof of the warmth of his hearth when meeting with friends. The memory of Mr. and Mrs. Burnett and their pleasing hospitalities will long remembered by those nearest and dearest to them.
