Aubrey was the youngest of five children born to Thadeus Brower and Laura Belle (Ervin) Moose. He married Sallie Hunsucker in 1920 and they had seven children: Evelyn Inez, Dempsey Kivett, Rosemary, Shirley Rebecca, Dorcas Lenore, Aubrey Russell Jr. and Brady Ervin.

(Note: Originally interred at Catawba Cemetery - reinterred at Eastview in 1997 along with wife, Sallie).
