Owen Brough passed in the evening of Jan. 20, 2015. His daughter, Sally, her husband David, Owen’s son Steve, his wife Shelby and Owen’s caregiver Martha Rios were at his side just prior to his passing.

Owen was born and raised on a farm near Tremonton, Utah; the son of Dora and Owen Brough, Sr. He met his wife, Alice, in 1939, and was married in 1940. Alice passed away in 2013.

Owen was the oldest boy in his family of four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his brother Robert, son, Steven (Shelby), daughter, Sally (David Roberson, grandons, Zack (Emily Lowther and great-gandbaby, Alice Mary) and Josh (Harini Madhavan and grand-grandbaby; Jaya).

Owen was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and father-in-law. He was also a true friend, mentor, teacher, administrator and leader to many who had the opportunity to get to know him. He was well educated, generous, hardworking, opinionated and stubborn (at times). In the words of his grandson Josh, Grandpa was “a farmer, veteran, teacher and hardworking, world-traveling, good-timing, jolly old man.” We will miss him dearly.

Owen was married to his dear wife, Alice, for almost 73 years. He loved his family and always wanted the best for them. He also loved his work, but made time to have fun and enjoy life, whether it be dancing, golfing, laughing with fiends and family, seeing the world, or, later in life, having a good nap.

Owen lived during an amazing period in history that took him from delivering eggs to the local market in a horse and buggy to flying across the Atlantic in the supersonic Concorde. Along the way he went on an LDs mission to Great Britain (Where he played on a missionary baseball team that won the British National Championship!), fought in WWII, earned bachelor, master, and Ph.D. degrees in agriculture, taught and conducted agricultural research at Iowa State and Washington State universities, raised a family and helped develop agricultural research and education programs throughout the middle east.

During his career, Owen traveled around the world several times, touching the lives of many along the way and helped improve agricultural systems both at home and abroad.

After retiring, Owen and Alice settle in Tucson, Ariz., where they lived for 24 years. They later moved to the Fountains at the Carlotta in Palm Desert in 2006, where he spent the remainder of his life enjoying his family and friends around.
