The Reverend Robert Eugene McConnell, Sr. died suddenly on Saturday, January 19. 1985, at his home, near Gate City, Virginia. He was pastor of the Marble Point - Robinette Memorial Charge at the time of his death. During his ministry he served as pastor of several other United Methodist Churches, ail in Scott County, Virginia, including Alley's Chapel, Blair's Chapel. Bellamy's Chapel. Horton's Chapel, Mt. Vernon, and several others that have since been discontinued.

Eugene McConnell is survived by his wife, Monnie who still resides in their Gate City home, a son, Robert E. McConnell, Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Delt Shelton. of Abingdon, Virginia.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 22, at the Gate City Funeral Home by his longtime friend, the Reverend W. Claude Lane, and his district superintendent, J. Robert Smith. Interment was in the Holston View Cemetery, in Weber City, Virginia.

Brother McConnell will long be remembered by those who knew and loved him. He lived the Gospel that he preached. He was a faithful servant to the end.
