George Dallas McCourry, 87, of 1633 Park Road, died at 7:03 PM Friday, March 20, 2015 at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1927 in Canton, Ohio the son of the late Dallas Fornia and Laura Elizabeth Buchanan McCourry.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, retired after 47 years of service from Stanley Furniture, a member of West Waynesboro Church of Christ and a member of Lee Lodge 209 AF & AM of Waynesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Fornia Clay McCourry, three daughters; Nora Elizabeth McCourry, Georgia Coleen McCourry, Sandra Faye Thorton, two brothers; Jess Austin McCourry, Charles Edward McCourry, two sisters; Anna Mae Coiner and Etta Belle McCourry.
On October 19, 1946 he married the former Virginia C. Batman who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a grandson, Michael Thorton, a great-granddaughter, Hannah, a brother-in-law, Walter Batman of Waynesboro, a sister-in-law, Emma Belle Rankin of Illinois, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by Phil Forehand.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post 340 and Lee Lodge 209 AF & AM.
Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Jim Fields, John Coiner and members of Lee Lodge 209 AF & AM.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of West Waynesboro Church of Christ attending service.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
The family would like to thank Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their support and care during Mr. McCourry's illness.
