Mary Ann Popp Kozel, 79, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015.

On Feb. 24, 1936, in Garwood, Mary Ann was born into the tight-knit German family of Frank and Annie Popp.

Mary Ann and her seven siblings lost their mother at a very young age and consequently learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, strong family ties and community.

She married her soulmate, Joe Kozel, on June 15, 1963, and as a military wife accompanied him to Michigan and Hawaii before settling down in Fort Worth. Her extended family and close-knit community were the cornerstones of Mary Ann's life. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, gardening and bird-watching with Joe, crocheting, quilting with friends and her many volunteer activities at her children's schools, at church and in the SPJST, a Texas-based Czech fraternal organization. She also worked at the Lake Worth YMCA for many years. More than anything, Mary Ann loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Kozel; brothers, Herman, Herbert and Frank; and sisters, Helen Berger, Martha Boenisch and Emily Boenisch.

Survivors: Children, Karen and John Patoskie, Barbara and Mark Craig, David and Diane Kozel, and Donna and Charles Camp; grandchildren, Jared, Renae, Megan and Derek Patoskie, Nicholas and Zachary Craig, Caitlin Williams, Madeline and Abigail Kozel, and Zoie and Addison Camp; and sister, Tina Hubenak.
