William Calvin "Cal" Braun was born in Kirk Colorado on Nov 17 1923 to Margaret (Klassen) and Peter A. Braun; and Calvin died at 88 years of age on September 22 2012 at the Avamere Retirement Community in Keizer, Oregon. In 1944, he married Tillie Goertzen in Reedley, California. Until 1957 Calvin and his family lived near Reedley, and then in Dallas, Lincoln City, and Keizer, Oregon from 1957-2008. He was faithful to God, loved his family, was always consistent in his church participation, and was always ready to volunteer when needed in his home neighborhood. Growing things was important to Cal, and he worked at various times on farms and he routinely planted and tended a home garden and his yard. He began a business in the mid-1950’s and helped it grow into Dallas Building Supplies, and he served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Retirement Village and as a lay leader at Faith Baptist Church in Lincoln City. Cal found great satisfaction during his years in Lincoln City working as manager for Lumbermen’s Building Materials, and in serving as a member of his local Kiwanis Service Club. In his later years, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening, and resting and spending time with his family. Cal was preceded in death by his loving wife, Tillie (Goertzen) Braun; two sons William Calvin Braun, Jr. and Infant Son Braun; his parents Peter A. and Margaret (Klassen) Braun; his sisters Maurien (Braun) Sawatzky, Esther (Braun) Ratzlaff and Dorothy Braun; and his brothers James Morris Braun and Richard Franklin Braun. Surviving Cal are his son Bill Braun and family of Fresno, California; his daughter Bev Worden and family of Keizer; and his sister Caroline (Braun) Gilstrap. A memorial service for Calvin was held on Friday, Sept. 28 2012, at the Salem First Baptist Church. Then on Oct 11 2013, Calvin’s family and friends interred the ashes of Calvin’s wife Tillie (who had died on Mar 12 2008) in the gravesite of Calvin’s and Tillie’s 2nd infant son who had died nearly 65 years earlier on Nov 2 1947. On the same date as his wife Tillie’s ashes were interred, the Calvin's ashes were interred in the same space as his and Tillie’s 1st son William C, Jr. who had died at birth about 68 years earlier on Jun 14 1945. Calvin's and Tillie’s interments were done in honor of their shared last request prior to their deaths.
