Margaret Klassen was born to Abraham C. and Katharina Wiebe Klassen on April 18, 1890, in Marion County, Kansas. In a family of 15 children (1 infant, and 7 girls and 7 boys), Margaret (Klassen) Braun was the 10 child and the 4th girl born to her parents. At the age of three in 1893, Margaret moved with her family to Flagler, Colorado. Two and a half years later in September they moved to Kirk, Colorado. Here on July 19, 1903, Margaret accepted the Lord and was baptized, thus becoming a member of the Joes Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1908, with financial aid provided by her Uncle Peter, Margaret was able to complete a two-year nurses' training course in Goessel, Kansas. For several years after completing her training, she pursued her vocation as a practical nurse. One year of this time she spent working in a hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Margaret Klassen and Peter A. Braun were married on October 16, 1913, in Kirk, Colorado, by Rev. A. A. Heinrichs. Following marriage, the Brauns lived on a farm near Kirk, where their 7 children were born. This farm was their home for 22 years where their faith in God brought them through very difficult years. Peter and Margaret attended church faithfully and served where they were needed. After March, 1935, the family made their home in Reedley, California, where they worked the family vineyard producing raisins. The family celebrated Peter and Margaret's Golden Wedding Anniversary in October, 1963, and a few weeks later on November 25, 1963, Peter died. Her sewing circle was a highlight in Margaret's life, because there she could visit with her many friends. She spent hours at her sewing machine, making and mending garments for various needs. In the home she demonstrated her faith in the Lord by sharing of her means and instructing her family in the Christian way of life. Margaret underwent major surgery in November, 1964. Thereafter, she was unable to care for herself completely, and she shared her Reedley home with her daughter Dorothy. In December, 1969, Margaret moved into a home for assisted living but always spoke of returning to her home because she felt that was where she belonged. After falling and being hospitalized, she transferred to Pleasant View Manor. While living there, on March 5, 1971, she suffered a major stroke and died on May 13, 1971, at the age of 81 years and 25 days.
