MAHAFFEY -- Funeral services for William H. Bennett who died yesterday at Curwensville will be from the McCracken Funeral Home at Mahaffey at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31. George Dobis of Jehovah Witnesses will officiate and interment will be made in the New Washington Cemetery.
Mr. Bennett, for many years a resident of Mahaffey, died at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Howell, following a long illness.
He was born in Indiana County May 25, 1880, a son of the late William F. and Catherine Adams Bennett. He was engaged as a lumberman and woodsman in Jefferson and Clearfield counties until his retirement in 1948.
In 1905 [sic = 26 Jan 1906; Clearfield Co. certificate number 13488] he was married to the former Margaret Mull of Indiana County who survives him along with four sons and daughters:
Ralph, DeYoung, Pa.; Harvey, Curwensville; Sanor, Mahaffey; Orvis, Mahaffey R.D. 2; Mrs. Grace McAnulty and Mrs. Ruth Haley, both of Curwensville; Mrs. LaRue Kelly, Ebensburg; and Mrs. Helen Corson, Mahaffey.
He also leaves 26 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and the following sisters and brother:
Joseph Bennett and Mrs. Sara Sunderlin, Mahaffey R.D. 1; Mrs. Emma Guiher, Saltsburg; and Mrs. Minnie Sunderlin, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock, Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday until time of services.
