She was born on August 28, 1915, in the Town of Delmar, Chippewa County, WI, to the late Henry and Mary (Ramert) Geist Sr.
She grew up in the Delmar Township and attended the Excelsior public school and also St. Joseph Catholic School in Boyd, WI.
Mathilda married Alfred Ramminger on February 6, 1934, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They farmed in the Town of Delmar for 2 years. In 1936 they purchased eighty acres in Sawyer County and lived at Hayward, WI, for ten years. In 1946 they moved to Cornell, where her husband worked at St. Regis paper mill for 25 plus years. During this time they purchased a 120 acre farm in the Keystone Community. In 1966 they purchased the present residence.
Mathilda was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was Coordinator for the Archconfraternity of Christian Doctrine for many years and taught the Catholic faith for seventeen years, also an an active member of the Council of Catholic Women and chairperson of St. Cecelia’s Circle for many years.
She is survived by six daughters and three sons, Carol (Don) of San Diego, CA, Wilfred (Sybeila) of Dover, DE, Viola of East Bethel, MN, Charlotte of Altura, MN, Rita of Oceanside, CA, Susan (Pete) of Ladson, SC, Leon (Maria) of Osseo, MN, Maryanne (Tom) of West Pains, MO, and Allen (Loni) of Cornell, WI. Also survived by 29 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Christina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; two daughters, Marilyn and Frances; three sisters, Agnes, Frances and Genivive; five brothers, Raymond, Henry, Joseph, Anthony and Theodore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell, WI, with Fr. Peter Manickan and Fr. Eric Linzmaier Officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Boyd, WI.
Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015, with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary at the Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell and also one hour before services Friday morning at the church.
