Miss Effie Mortimer, 77, former teacher in the rural schools of Calumet County, died early Tuesday at Beloit Municipal Hospital. Miss Mortimer, who lived with relatives in Beloit for 18 years, was stricken with a heart attack June 26.

A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Allen Mortimer, she was born on a farm near Chilton, Sept 16, 1876, later moving to Chilton with her family. A graduate of Chilton High School, she taught for a number of years in rural schools of the area. She never married.

Surviving are three brothers, Ralph and Jess Mortimer of Chilton, and Roger of Milwaukee; and two sisters, Mrs. Zack Stewart of Oconto Falls, and Mrs. Katherine Vincent of Wellington, Kan.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, with burial in Hillside cemetery.
