Allen E. Mortimer Chilton Times July 29, 1922

Allen E. Mortimer was born at Waterloos, N.Y., Nov. 28, 1846, and at the time of his death was 75 years and 8 months. He was the son of the late Emanuel and Jemima Mortimer. He came west with his parents and settled in Dodge County in 1852 and two years later the family moved to Calumet county, locating in the woods northwest of this city in the town of Chilton on the farm now owned by George Salm. Here he spent his young days, assisting in the improvement and development of the homestead.
On April 24, 1873, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. Trevor, daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Trevor of that neighborhood. They purchased the Alex McKenna farm, now owned by Bernard Albers, in the western portion of this city. They remained on this farm until 1893 when they sold it and then moved to what is known as the Calvin Merrill farm which they purchased on the Brant Road, a mile north of this city and upon which they lived until 1920 when they sold the farm to Simon August and purchased a home on Grand Street where they were enjoying a well earned rest and comforts their busy lives had provided for them.
There never was a better citizen in any community than Allen Mortimer. All who knew him admired his sturdy integrity, his honest dealings, his neighborly qualities and love and devotion for his family.
He leaves surviving, his wife, three daughters, Mrs. H. A. Vincent of Wellington, Kansas, Miss Effie M. at home, Mrs. Zach Stewart of Suring, Wis., and five sons, Ralph and Jesse of this city, Prof. George B. of Madison, Jos A., Whitewater, and Roger G. of Milwaukee. He also leaves a brother, George Mortimer of this city and a sister, Mrs. Harvey Yule of Fond du Lac.
The funeral was held from the residence on Grand Street, Rev. Bert Trevor of Appleton, brother of Mrs. Mortimer, conducting the service, with interment in Hillside cemetery.
