The funeral of James S. Savage who died Tuesday afternoon was held from the home 601 East Sixth Avenue Thursday afternoon at two o'clock.
Rev. E.W. Wilcox conducted the service at the house and the Siverd Post had charge of the service at the grave in Akron cemetery where interment was made. Members of the Siverd Post acted as pall bearers.
J.S. Savage was born in Bond County, Illinois, March 12, 1839 and at death was 79 years, 8 months and 12 days old. On January 26, 1869 he was united in marriage to Mary P. Hittle and to this union eight sons and three daughters were born.
The wife preceded her husband in death on June 3, 1884. On November 13, 1908 he was married to Mrs. Maggie Stiner who with four sons survive. The sons are, Al, Andrew and Frank Savage of Blackwell and S.A. Savage of Winfield.
Mr. Savage and family came to Kansas from Illinois in the spring of 1876 and located on a farm near Akron and later in years moved to Winfield.
He was a Civil War veteran having enlisted in the 54th Regiment Illinois Volunteers.
