Benton - Thomas H. Bruce, 75, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Franklin Hospital. Graveside services were held at 12 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, east of Thompsonville. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home. Military rites were performed by the Benton American Legion and VFW. Mr. Bruce was born April 11, 1927 in Benton, the son of John A. and Ival (Morris) Bruce. He married the former Amy Lorene Sullivan on March 24, 1946 and she died on Oct. 11, 1991. He was a retired coal miner from the Freeman United Coal Company. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by a son, David Bruce, Benton, a daughter, Nancy and husband Bill Magges, Benton, two grandchildren, Thomas and Valerie Bruce, a great-grandchild, Zane Bruce, two sisters, Monalee Snyder, Benton, Aline Bruce, Chicago, two brothers, Warren Bruce and wife Barbara, West Frankfort, Randall Bruce and wife Betty, Benton, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, wife, three brothers, J.R., William and Othel Bruce, and a sister, Addie Gant.
