Eugene was the sixth of seven children born to John Andrew and Margaret May Ann (Eades) Moose. He married Vera Augustus Stewart in 1931 and they had twelve children: Dorothy Joan, Baxter Eugene, Mary Frances, James Robert, Walter Gary, Peggy Sue, Dessie Noleence, Celia Christine, Linda Fay, Johnny Ray, Jerry Wayne and Debra Lynn.
