Anna was born near Berlin, Germany on February 18, 1879. Her parents were John Koerber and Hannah (Pruner) Koerber. She had an older sister Margaretta Koerber. Along with her parents and sister, Anna emigrated to the US in 1884. The family went to Nebraska, where Anna's father John passed away, during their first winter there of frostbite of the foot. Sometime after that, with her mother and sister, Anna moved to Lewis County, Washington, where on February 18, 1887, her mother married August Schnarr, sr. in Chehalis. August and Hannah had four children - August jr., Gustave, Minnie, and Johan ("Johnny" - who was later a famous rum runner during prohibition). These four children were Anna's half siblings.

On June 24, 1895, in Chehalis, Anna married Silas Orin Sage, who was 30 years her senior. It was his second marriage, her first. Together they had 9 children, of whom 6 survived to adulthood: Elsie, Olive, Mamie, Henry, Gertrude Matilda, and Ella.

Anna died at the age of 42 on March 2, 1921, reportedly of an infected toe or foot. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of EC Fissel. She was buried in the Pe Ell Cemetery, AKA St. Joseph's Cemetery.
