Walter M. Sakowski, 89, of Lyncourt passed away on November 22, 2015. He was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII- Iwo Jima. He also served in the Korean War during the Chosin Campaign and was one of the "Chosin Few." He worked at Syracuse Pottery where he met his wife of 64 years. He then went on to retire from Carrier Corp after 35 years. Walter will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The one passion and dream he had and was fulfilled, is now shared with his family he loved and memories surrounding it - the camp he built. He was preceded by his beloved wife, Eunice Sakowski; his son, Timothy Sakowski; and his son-in-law, Frank Ferrante. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Sharon Ferrante of Baldwinsville; his daughter, Valerie Kicak of North Syracuse; his brother, Frank (Helen) Sakowski of Lakeland; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday 8:45 a.m. at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Church, 740 Teall Ave, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park St.
