Matthew J. Sakowski, 91, of N. Syracuse, passed away Monday joining his wife, Genevieve. Born in Syracuse, Matthew owned Sakowski Jewelry in Syracuse. He was a communicant of Transfiguration Church and a member of the West Side Seniors. Matthew was a member and past post commander of American Legion Post #1650 He was a WWII Army veteran where he served with the paratroopers and the O.S.S. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Stahl; a son, Daniel; and several grandchildren, Danielle (David) Fillpski, Thomas Sakowski, Matthew (Jackie Newman), Geoffrey and Genna Miller, and Mark and Zach Stahl; and several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Ray Carlson whose help allowed Matthew to stay in his home. Services: 10:15 a.m. Friday at the GIMINSKI-WYSOCKI FUNERAL HOME, 11 a.m. at Transfiguration Church with interment at Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 1320 W. Genesee St. in Syracuse
