(1952 - 2015)

Mary E. Koenig, 63, of Kiel passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, November 25, 2015 with her family at her side at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

She was the former Mary Hei, born March 30, 1952 in Durand, WI, daughter of the late Edward & Charlotte (Smith) Hei. She attended Kiel Schools and in 2007 was proud to earn her HSED. On December 9, 1970 she married Kenneth Koenig. Kenneth preceded her in death on July 27, 1985. Mary was employed at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for 34 years until her retirement. After retirement she stayed busy taking care of her grandchildren.

She cherished each and every day with her family and friends and was a compassionate person who loved to laugh. Mary enjoyed cooking & baking and had a gift for luring you to the table to take part in a meal of her many delicious recipes. Mary was called "Mom" by many and was always available when you needed her. She graciously helped care for her foster grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with her dog, Molly.

Survivors include her four children: Dawn (Mark) Mahnke, New Holstein, Sonya (Mike) Sabish, rural Kiel, Heidi (Travis) Halfmann, Kiel and Shawn Koenig, rural Kiel and eight grandchildren, Mark Mahnke Jr., Athly & Deanna Sabish, Abigail Schultz and Tyler, Isabella, Taylor & Landon Halfmann. She is further survived by three brothers, Lynn (Kathy) Bignell, Gary (Ann) Hei, Mike Hei, brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Dan Koenig, Pam (Randy) Bratz, Judy (Neil) Bratz, Dennis (Jody) Koenig, Keith (Helen) Koenig, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, one brother, Dennis "Dean" Hei, one sister-in-law, Patricia Bignell and one brother-in-law, Rick Koenig.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St. Kiel) with Licensed Lay Minister, Dan Krueger officiating.

Entombment will take place in Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 6:45pm.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her name.

Mary's family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors and staff at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for all their help as well as the Kiel Ambulance Service.
