Lester Chewning Retired Farmer, Dies at Age 89

Lester Berry Chewning, 89, Spotsylvania County, a retired farmer, died Sunday at Mary Washington Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Laura A. Chewning; two sons, Clarence B. and Robert L. Chewning of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Mrs. Estelle Shelton, Mrs. Bessie Onderdonk and Mrs. Isabelle Gallahan, all of Fredericksburg; a sister, Mrs. Grace Fishback of Madison; a brother, Jasper Chewning of Eleys Ford; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Wilderness Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The cortege will leave the Wheeler and Thompson Funeral Home here at 2 p.m.. The Reverends Richard Bell and E. V. Peyton, will officiate at the services.

Pallbearers will be Fred Parker, Boyd Chewning, Arthur Verna, Willie Wright, Walton Haney and Leo Jones.
