William Floyd Atherton, 53, Templeton RD1, died at 10 p.m. October 6, 1972, at the Armstrong County Hospital. Born October 23, 1918, in Mosgrove, he was the son of Ralph and Sarah (Croyle) Atherton. He was employed as a transfer man at Haws Refactories and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife Marabell (Craft) Atherton; three sons, Dennis, Kittanning, Douglas and Timothy at home; seven daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Margaret) Carnahan, Fennelton RD1, Mrs. Larry (Charlotte) Cloak, Kittanning, Mrs. Thomas (Barbara) Robertson, Ford City, Deborah, Kathy Ann, Ruth, and Kimm at home. One son, PFC Frank W. Atherton, US Marine Corp was killed in Vietnam April 13, 1968. Survivors also include four brothers, Ralph, Albert, and Frank, of Templeton RD1, and Ira Lee of Templeton; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Jane) Huffman, Mayport, and eight grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Merwin-Kennedy Funeral home after 7 p.m. this evening. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m, October 9 with the Rev. Charles E. Strater pastor of First Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Cochran Cemetery.
