US NAVY - WORLD WAR II

Ira Lee Atherton, 55, Templeton, died Wednesday, August 22, 1979, at the Veteran's Hospital in Oakland. Born in Boggs Township on December 23, 1923, he was the son of Ralph and Sara (Croyle) Atherton. He was employed by Haws Refractory of Templeton and was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine (Crissman) Atherton; a son Robert at home; four daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Dolores) Beck and Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Luke, both of Kittanning, Mrs. Harvey (Janet) Fox of Templeton and Private Betty Atherton at home; three brothers, Ralph, Albert, and Frank, all of Templeton RD1 and eight grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Snyder Funeral Home, Kittanning, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Cloyd Osborne, chaplain at the Veterans Hospital, Butler officiating.Burial will be in Pine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
