Paul was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. He graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC with his Bachelor's degree and completed additional studies at the University of Georgia and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He worked at the Federal Census Bureau in Washington, DC. Mr. Bobo worked for the City of Charlotte for 37 years as City Engineer, Assistant City Manager, and as the Interim City Manager. He headed up the day to day operations of police, engineering, transportation, airport, utility, fire, planning. These were the departments that were directly involved in service delivery to the people of Charlotte and as we grew in some measure to the six towns that made up Mecklenburg County. Thusly, he also had to interface with the General Assembly.
He also attended and served on various state and national committees of the NC Airport Association, the American Public Works Association, the National League of Cities, US Conference of Mayors, The International City Managers Association (ICMA.) In retirement he served as consultant to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport in their first terminal expansion.
In his personal time, he enjoyed RV camping, hunting, farming and was an avid Panthers Fan. He is survived by his four children, Paula Hightower, Gregory Bobo, Mark Bobo and Carol Bobo; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his furry grandchildren, Riley, Cricket, Bentley, Gizmo, and Hurley.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bobo is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Edna McClellan Bobo; three sisters; and one brother.
Visitation will be held from four until six o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 14th of February, 2016, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
A funeral service will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 15th of February, 2016, at the McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel. Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte.
