Joseph R. Mailand, age 66, a Manitowoc resident, joined his wife, Candy, in eternal life on Monday evening, February 1, 2016. Joseph was born on July 9, 1949 in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph J. and Lucille (Neuser) Mailand. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1967. On June 28, 1969 he married the former Mary "Candy" Cain at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2015. Joseph was a forklift driver for Weyerhauser for well over 40 years. When he was not at work, Joseph, being a country boy his entire life, could be found puttering around outside the home for hours. Joseph was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was an easy going, strong, and gentle man that anyone would have been honored to know.Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Heather Resch, Newton, Amy and Edward Gray II, Kenosha; five grandchildren: Meghan Resch and special friend Ty Gasparek, Brandon Resch, Michael Resch, Mitchel Gray, and Madelyn Gray; one brother: Donald Mailand, Manitowoc; one sister and brother-in-law: Dolores and Dale Jungwirth, Rosendale; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Cindi and Dennis Karbon, Manitowoc and Charlene and John Nelson, Plymouth; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: Curtis and Sandi Cain, Manitowoc, Clay Cain and special friend Connie Tonn, Omro. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law: Marjorie and Donald Sickinger and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Mailand. Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. February 17, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry.The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton, from 10:00a.m., February 17, 2016 until 10:45am.
