Donald Joseph Mailand, age 87, resident of rural Manitowoc (Shoto), passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday January 29, 2024.

Donald was born in Manitowoc on October 4, 1936 to Joseph and Lucille (Neuser) Mailand. He was a life-long area resident, who also served many years with the Army National Guard.

On April 18, 1959 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Jasmer at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Dorothy preceded him in death on August 9, 2000.

Donald was employed with A&P Whitehouse Milk - National Dairy Division for 26 1/2 years until it's closing. He then worked for Manitowoc Engineering, Burger Boat, and retired from Jagemann Stamping Company. Donald was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, and loved attending church services. He enjoyed small game hunting, deer hunting, and fishing with his family & friends; and also enjoyed working on small engine repairs. He was a member of the N.R.A. and the 2-Cylinder Club; and will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his children: Annette Horstketter of Manitowoc, Mary Jo Eis of Two Rivers, Jeff Mailand of Green Bay, and Dan Mailand (Jodie Thielbar) of Beauval, Saskatchewan, Canada; his grandchildren: Nick Horstketter, Melissa Horstketter, Michael (Heidi) Eis, Brian Eis, Chris Eis (Cassie Schoepp), Tyler Eis, Adam (Felicia) Reichard, Cordell Mailand; and his great-grandchildren: Danielle, Lauren, Abrianna, Kamryn, and baby Eis expected in March - as Grandpa Donald said, (God's Greatest Gift). He is further survived by one sister, Dolores Lorie (Dale) Jungwirth; sisters-in-law: Rosana Jasmer and Bonnie Jasmer (Bob) Nack; special friend of the family, Gary Schultz; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucille Mailand; his wife, Dorothy; one son, Mark Mailand; a son-in-law, Bill Eis; brother, Joe (Candy) Mailand; sister, Marjorie (Donald) Sickinger; father & mother-in-law: Pearley and Cecilia Jasmer; and in-laws: Marian (Norbert) Stangel, Joseph Jasmer, and Michael Jasmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Waldo - 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Matthew Colle, with burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc at a later date. Military graveside honors will be held at the church immediately following the mass by members of American Legion Post #88 of Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Waldo, Friday morning from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
