Fred C. Cadwalader, 72, of Grand Island died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at CHI Health St. Francis.

Fred was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Grand Island, youngest of 10 children, to Walter and Daisy (Fletcher) Cadwalader.

Growing up in Grand Island, Fred was a Boy Scout and at age 13, he was able to use the skills he learned to save another boy from drowning, earning him the VFW Citizenship Award.

On June 9, 1973, Fred was united in marriage to Nancy Findley. The couple made their home in Grand Island and surrounding area.

As a jack of all trades and master of none, Fred tried his hand at many different professions. He enjoyed taking care of the animals while working as a hired hand and also was employed by an appliance delivery company.

Fred enjoyed catch and release fishing, a hobby that he was able to share with his sons. He also loved to play pickle cards and made several trips to Omaha and South Dakota to play the slot machines.

He is survived by his sons, Tom (Julie) Cadwalader, Eddie (Sheena) Cadwalader, Donnie (Holly) Cadwalader, all of Grand Island, and Mark (Jaime) Cadwalader of Texas; brothers, Bert Cadwalader of Bountiful, Utah, and Roy Cadwalader of Grand Island; sister, Alvina “Blanche” Cadwalader of Casper, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Nancy Cadwalader of Grand Island; along with numerous extended family.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milford; and sisters, Edna, Evelyn, Lillian, Mary and Dorothy.
