When Fred left home Mary made friends of her neighbor ladies and when several of them started to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad as engine wipers over at the shops, she joined them. There were 22 ladies that did this job and we became known as the "Dirty Dozen", perhaps because only twelve that worked on each shift and, heaven knows it was quite dirty. They enjoyed this job very much and stayed there several years.
